Daniel J. Alfonso, Ed.D.

Daniel J. Alfonso was appointed to the Town of Davie, District 2 Council seat in March of 2026. He also serves as the Executive Vice President of Facilities, Public Safety, and Business Services at Nova Southeastern University (NSU). A versatile leader with a career spanning over three decades across the military, municipal government, and higher education, Dr. Alfonso is recognized for his ability to navigate complex organizations and drive large-scale fiscal and infrastructural improvements.
Since joining NSU in 2017, Dr. Alfonso has been responsible for the university’s physical infrastructure, public safety, student housing, procurement, real estate asset management, and environmental health. He has responsibility for these services across the NSU enterprise which extends throughout Davie/Fort Lauderdale and regional campuses, including locations throughout Florida, Colorado, and Puerto Rico. His portfolio includes leadership for the development, build-out, and maintenance of modern academic and research facilities designed to support a student-centered vision.
Prior to his tenure at NSU, Dr. Alfonso served as the City Manager for the City of Miami. He is credited with developing the plans of the City’s historic financial turnaround during his tenure as Budget Director and CFO. Dr. Alfonso headed the administration responsible for improving the city’s bond rating from BBB to AA and increasing the fund balance from $13 million to $150 million. As the City Manager, he also championed the establishing of the offices of Strategic Planning, Innovation, and Resiliency to ensure the city’s long-term preparedness and sustainability.
Earlier in his career, he spent 17 years with Miami-Dade County, managing over $200 million in major construction projects, including the Children’s Courthouse and the Overtown Transit Village.
A veteran of the United States Army, Dr. Alfonso earned the rank of sergeant, a role that instilled the discipline and leadership values central to his professional approach. He holds a Doctor of Education in Organizational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University. Additionally, he earned a Master of Science in Finance and a Bachelor of Business Administration from Florida International University, as well as an Associate Degree in Accounting from Miami Dade College.
A dedicated family man, Dr. Alfonso has been married to his partner, Claudia, since 1986. They have two adult children, Juan and Patricia.
